This 3D model of the Neptune Fountain (German: Gabeljürge), located in the western part of the Market Square (Rynek) in Gliwice, was created using Gaussian Splatting (Supersplat) technology, enabling highly realistic visualization of the artwork while preserving exceptional detail and visual quality.
The spatial data acquisition process was carried out using the XGRIDS PortalCam system, which provides fast and accurate capture of real-world environments. The collected data was subsequently processed and optimized by the SKANOSFERA team, specialists in advanced 3D scanning, digital documentation, and photorealistic spatial modeling.
By leveraging Gaussian Splatting technology, the fountain was reconstructed with a high level of fidelity, accurately representing its form, surface textures, lighting conditions, and the unique character of its surroundings. This historic Baroque fountain, built in 1794 by the sculptor Johannes Nitsche of Opava, depicts Neptune holding a trident in his right hand and seated on a dolphin. Carved from sandstone, it stands on a pedestal within a square basin and has long been a beloved landmark of Gliwice, affectionately nicknamed "George with the Pitchfork" (Gabeljürge) by local residents. Listed as a registered monument (reg. no. B/567/82, 7 June 1982), the resulting model serves as a modern digital representation of the space and can be used for marketing purposes, virtual tours, as-built documentation, and long-term digital archiving.
