At the History Harvest in Georgetown (February 2026), this historic Kettle Pot for Cooking was 3D scanned using Scaniverse to highlight the use of digital storytelling in remembering the past for public audiences. Oral histories, digital scans, and 3D lidar scanners (both with my smartphone and with actual mobile laser scanners) were available for guests not only to share stories about their community’s past but also to record them for future generations. I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Benjamin D. Brotemarkle, the Executive Director of the Florida Historical Society (FHS), who conducted a spot interview with me on the use of 3D scanning through smartphone LiDAR technology in history. The results of the interview will be published on Florida Frontiers, the public radio program and podcast of the Florida Historical Society!
