BMW X3 2024 (G01) - a challenging reconstruction to test object masking
- video taken with GoPro 10 Black (5.3k, 24fps, linear, locked exposure)
- 1900 frames extracted with sharp-frames
- masks generated with Spirula Studio ("remove: license plates; lens flares; reflection of person")
- reconstruction with Colmap (sequential+transitive)
- training with Slang-Splat (12.5M splats, 200k iterations)
Very difficult reconstruction: first attempt was ~870 frames but it wasn't enough for a good result. One of the issues was the partially overcast sky and many reflections on the dark paint - this required very high splat count to approximately get right. Also, rear side of the car required 200k iterations to converge all details, up until ~160k iterations was still blurry in places.
Honorable mention to 3D Splat App for making a pretty decent reconstruction and training result with 870 images: https://superspl.at/scene/e662315d
PS: the result looks worse on SuperSplat due to downscaling of the model. Trust me it looks a a bit better in full detail. Particularly on mobile supersplat it looks pretty bad - try to view on desktop if you can.
