@wilson: It does a decent enough job, about 90% accurate I'd say. Because you also move around and have many frames from other locations that see that there is nothing in the bits that bleed through the mask, it's usually enough. In this case it was mostly other pedestrians that cause floaters. From a distance and when they group up SAM struggles. For pedestrians that stand still I often have to do manual clean-up, though I didn't do so in this case. Another things it often misses is your own shadow, which can give black patches when looking straight down. You could include "shadow of person", but that seems to give more false positives than actual positives and still misses a lot.

did you find that the SAM3 masking worked well at removing you from the scene? I've been curious how 360 cameras to 3dgs handles that aspect

@cp3o: The insta 360 recording was 11 minutes, though I also scouted the track beforehand, so total recording time was about 15 minutes. If i want to do a proper recording, I'd have to bring my painter's pole and spend more time, but I'd first like to get permission from the owner. Spirula Studio is an all-in-one solution, handling image extraction directly from the original .insv file, masking (if not the best quality), Structure-from-Motion and training. I did very little manual work (apart from the unneeded DSLR inclusion). It's pretty fool-proof with mostly default settings, I'll update the post with my settings later, it seems this splat is gathering more attention than I epxected. There are paid solutions that offer the same workflow if you don't have a desktop with a GPU (Splatica is the first Google hit, and Insta360 has its own free variant for very small scenes). I don't know if they give similar quality, Spirula has remarkable SfM and VRAM efficient training.

how many hours of work did it take to do the recordings with the X5 - and how did you have to convert all images by yourself into this result using spirula or is a paid service possible too?

@ichsan: You can select multiple types of videos or image folders and Spirula usually correctly determines the lens type for each. In this case I split my images into two seperate folders, since I had to change my focal length during the shoot.

How to combine Insta360 images with your DSLR? Is that easy to do that in Spirula?
