Another beautiful creature that looks just like a wasp from our perspective - It's real identity is revealed clearly with this macroscan, however! If you look really closely, you can see individual pollen grains in the mouth... It was shot with 100% cross-polarisation for a very fine surface detail spec, and consistent colours. Definitely worth an inspection :-) Hoverflies, also known as flower flies or syrphid flies, are harmless insects that play crucial roles as pollinators and natural pest controllers. Hoverflies use both visual and behavioral mimicry to resemble bees and wasps, reducing predation risk through Batesian mimicry.
