Recorded with an Insta360 X5 in 8K video. Includes a wide and central loop using an overhead selfie stick, a second central loop with a forward‑facing selfie stick, and several side‑to‑side passes around each device.
Raw fisheyes were exported and masked (sky - to avoid “chasing the clouds”, person, and ~8% edge removal) using the 360 plugin for LightFeld Studio.
COLMAP integration failed, so COLMAP 4.10 was run separately with exhaustive matching (bundle adjustment took ages, should’ve invested more time in getting CASPAR working).
The sparse reconstruction was imported into LightFeld Studio 5.3 for a GUT training (MRNF, ~30k iterations, ~5M splats).
Masks were disabled during training because I didn’t feel like cleaning up the sky or regenerating masks with only person and outer 8%.
The first attempt failed (likely VRAM exhaustion), so the run was repeated at half resolution (1920 px per fisheye).
No cleanup yet. A nasty floater in the bushes needs attention, but the combination of high and low passes seems to have eliminated floaters in the gym area.
To do list:
Timelapse workflow — adapt the workflow for timelapse capture to reduce file sizes.
Resolution experiments — test how resolution affects results. This run used very high frame frequency but low resolution; quantity seems to have a quality of its own when poses are solid.
Sky replacement — get better at replacing sky splats with a skybox.
Floater cleanup — remove the bush floater.
Camera positions — consider using COLMAP camera locations for educational purposes instead of a fly‑through preview.
Scene scaling — forgot to resize; enjoy being a giant for now.
