Alright… I misidentified this moth at first! It actually has greenish, shimmering scales that are quite unique to this species, and I somehow missed them initially. The species gets the "crescent" part of its name from small white crescent-shaped markings near the trailing edge of the forewings, just beyond the darker cross-band. Unlike many other moths, this one is active in autumn, well into November. When disturbed, they will often drop and play dead.. exactly how I found it.
