During my Fall 2025 internship with the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Institute of Simulation and Training (IST), working alongside their ChronoPoints lab, I was able to experiment with smartphone 3D scanning using Scaniverse and the LiDAR capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro. At the same time, my internship with IST introduced me to their work, and the broader field of simulation, modeling, and immersive environments. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lori Walters, my internship supervisor, I gained a deeper understanding of
digital tools in public history and why these skills matter. This model is the largest scan completed as a part of this internship and is the main center obelisk of the 7 at the memorial.
This extensive commemorative landscape features a central large obelisk and multiple flanking monuments that remember soldiers from World War I through the post-Vietnam War era. Its successful capture required adapting all of the smartphone 3D scanning techniques acquired throughout the semester for a broad, complex outdoor environment, highlighting the iPhone 16 Pro's capability to digitally recreate large-scale cultural heritage sites like this memorial using Scaniverse software.
