This Green Tiger Beetle (Cicindela campestris) was collected in northwestern France. This specimen measures approximately 1.4 centimeters, legs not included.
These fierce predators detect their prey with their large eyes and catch up to them using their long legs. They can also use their wings to fly. They often spend their time on bare ground on hot days.
Tiger Beetles are the fastest crawling animals, relative to their size.
To automate the image capture, I used the scAnt 3D scanner (https://github.com/evo-biomech/scAnt). The shooting process took 4 hours.
Splats were generated with Spirula Studio using an RTX 3070 with 8gb of VRAM. I used the default settings for centered objects, with 50,000 steps and 500,000 max splats.
