This 3D model of the "Lew czuwający" ("Watching Lion") sculpture, located on Dolnych Wałów Street in Gliwice in front of Villa Caro, was created using Gaussian Splatting (Supersplat) technology, enabling highly realistic visualization of the artwork while preserving exceptional detail and visual quality.
The spatial data acquisition process was carried out using the XGRIDS PortalCam system, which provides fast and accurate capture of real-world environments. The collected data was subsequently processed and optimized by the SKANOSFERA team, specialists in advanced 3D scanning, digital documentation, and photorealistic spatial modeling.
By leveraging Gaussian Splatting technology, the sculpture was reconstructed with a high level of fidelity, accurately representing its form, surface textures, lighting conditions, and the unique character of its surroundings. This historic cast-iron sculpture, depicting a reclining lion with a raised head, was cast in 1824 at the Gliwice Foundry (Huta Gliwice) based on a design by Theodor Erdmann Kalide. Listed as a registered monument (reg. no. B/192/70, 28 December 1970), the work was relocated to its present setting beside Villa Caro in 1934. The resulting model serves as a modern digital representation of the space and can be used for marketing purposes, virtual tours, as-built documentation, and long-term digital archiving.
