Capturing the atmosphere in the woods has always been difficult for me. A single photo never really nails the atmosphere. The splats are getting better and better in creating a similar visual impression. Unfortunately the material not yet runs smooth on devices like the Quest3. We're getting there and I want to be ready for it. :-)
The scene was captured during a mountain-bike ride ascending on the Windberg (Freital/Germany). It's what I call my "Hausberg". I carefully tried to take a few full 360° swings my iPhone. A 360° camera is likely better suited, but I wanted to have an alway-in-my-pocket solution for which I stick to my iPhone. I use a custom app to lock exposure and capture HD frames in an ARKit session. The challenge is then to re-process the poses. This has been challenging for outdoor scenes, but I am getting better at it. After optimization, I run the frames for 20K, SH2 in Brush with pretty much default settings. I really like Brush, it runs on a Mac very well.
(The splat is based on 275 images, locked exposure and white settings. Blurred frames have been removed; I missed a few shots. I guess this caused the greenish blur in some background sections).
