I found this dead specimen on the pavement but after scanning noticed it had lost a leg and part of its abdomen. These are beneficial parasitic wasps. They don’t sting humans (they’re harmless to people) and instead parasitize other insects — particularly moth pupae or larvae — by laying eggs inside them. The wasp larvae then consume the host from within. This makes them excellent natural pest controllers in gardens.
