Japanese honeybee (Apis cerana japonica) captured as a high-detail 3D scan.
This specimen was photographed using a Sony ILCE-7M5, Sony FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS SEL100M28GM, and Sony 2× Teleconverter (SEL20TC). The image set was acquired with a custom-built macro capture rig designed for focus-stacked photogrammetry.
The reconstruction was processed in Agisoft Metashape Professional, with additional refinement and visualization workflows performed in Lichtfeld Studio. Thousands of high-magnification images were combined to preserve fine anatomical details, including wing venation, body hairs, compound eyes, and pollen-collecting structures.
Japanese honeybees are native to Japan and play an important ecological role as pollinators. Compared to the Western honeybee (Apis mellifera), they are well adapted to local environments and exhibit unique defensive behaviors against predators such as giant hornets.
