Soccer City, originally built in 1989, is shaped like an African calabash pot and sits in Nasrec, right next to Soweto. It was completely rebuilt between 2007 and 2009 ahead of the 2010 World Cup, reopening that October with room for almost 95,000 fans, making it the biggest stadium in Africa. Beyond hosting that historic World Cup final, it's where Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech after being released from prison back in 1990, and it hosted the 1996 African Cup of Nations final too. These days it's known as FNB Stadium and is home turf for Kaizer Chiefs.
