This kind of material test (especially shiny and translucent surfaces) is exactly where 3DGS gets interesting.
I wanted to show the beauty of a Gaussian Splatting model — how well it preserves shiny and translucent objects with an impressive amount of detail. Tiny water droplets, reflective aluminum surfaces, and clear ice cubes are captured with striking realism, including subtle reflections, refractions, and surface textures that are usually difficult for 3D reconstruction methods to reproduce.
