The lampshade is decorated using manography – a technique that enhances both its aesthetic and functional (diffusing) properties. It employs two types of frosting: sandblasting and etching. The irregular edge of the glass was created mechanically as part of the finishing processes. The company S. Reich & Co. was among the largest manufacturers of glass for lighting fixtures in Austria–Hungary. Glass decorated in such a demanding way is a typical example of the company’s production at the end of the 19th century.
