This fly is loud, obnoxious and annoying. Its metallic sheen makes it look like a tiny machine that escaped a steampunk universe. That shine isn’t pigment, but microscopic structures bending light into an iridescent shimmer. Its eyes are its superpowers: they can see almost 360° and detect motion up to five times faster than we do. No wonder these buggers always dodge my swats. They have taste buds on their feet, when they rub their legs together they clean those sensors. The stubs behind their wings are leftovers from hind wings, now evolved into gyroscopes for flight stability. Shot with a nikon DSLR, 90mm macro lens and 20mm extension, 111 perspectives, 16 focus stack each.
