The sculpture Kinder und Kater (also known as Mädchen mit Kind, or "Girl with Child") is a touching bronze work from 1956 by German sculptor Fritz During, created in the realistic-figurative tradition. The composition features three figures arranged in a harmonious, balanced ensemble: a small boy in front holding a toy and grasping the cat's tail with his right hand; an older girl behind him, resting her arms protectively on his shoulders; and a cat weaving affectionately around the children's legs, rubbing against the girl's left leg while peering out. The close physical contact and overlapping forms create flowing lines that guide the viewer's eye, evoking tenderness and unity in this intimate group portrait. It ranks among Kiel's most endearing public artworks.
