Snowy - Fulton, NY, USA
This scene of Fulton, NY was captured on January 6, 2026 when the weather cleared up a bit after several days of snowfall. Approximately 28 inches of lake effect snow fell a few days prior and a total of perhaps 37 inched accumulated in total since the storm began. Folks here are accustomed to lots of snow and know how to manage it. The weather was warming up on this Tuesday morning with rain expected in the afternoon. A 24-minute drone flight captured 4k video of the area. About 2600 video frames (2 per second) were processed into this Gaussian Splat model using the software "Brush". Image alignment was performed first in Agisoft Metashape. Guassian splat training was performed to 120k iterations on the full resolution imagery and produced just over 9 million splats with three spherical harmonics. Lots of ground imagery was also captured using a DSLR and a 6 camera rig "GoPro Omni" that was wielded, hand-held, on a painters pole. Neither the DSLR nor the GoPro Omni footage was included in the dataset that was processed to create this model (at this time). Hopefully by viewing this you gain some appreciation for what the folks here deal with every year. This is a heavy lake effect snowfall zone in upstate New York.
