The Spanish Dining Armchair
This chair is The Spanish Dining Armchair designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Fredericia. The process of making this one was a fun (and very educational) reminder of how much the final viewer matters. Big thanks to slimbuck from the PlayCanvas Team for clearing away my frustration during the final steps of the process - exactly when you’re most excited to share something great with the world. I trained the model in PostShot on a synthetic dataset where renders, point cloud, and camera positions work together to achieve a photorealistic result. After training, I compressed the model using the .SOG method to make it lightweight and web-friendly. Here’s the interesting part: The model looked excellent in PostShot, closely matching the training renders and the material qualities I wanted to preserve. But when I first viewed it on SuperSplat, the output felt noticeably different — the colors looked blown out and the contrast was too aggressive, especially on fabric, and to a smaller extent on wood. After discussing this with people on the PlayCanvas/SuperSplat support forum, I learned they’re testing a feature that accounts for anti-aliasing (AA) used during training. The feature isn’t fully integrated yet, but there’s a simple workaround: ---Add &aa to the end of the SuperSplat URL.--- The difference is significant. It turns a too-harsh, over-boosted look into something much closer to the intended material expression. Next, I’m going back through my library of splat tests to re-check them with AA enabled — and I honestly can’t wait to see how many of them improve with this little hack.
