This grasshopper has bright red hind wings that it only reveals in flight. This sudden flash of color startles potential predators, giving it a chance to escape. Its front wings blend perfectly with its camouflaged body, making it almost invisible when it lands. Built like a tiny tank and armored like a medieval warrior, it measures up to 35 mm and has powerful hind legs that let it leap impressive distances.
