Pawson Lounge Chair
I’ve been diving deep into this Gaussian Splat experiment featuring the Lounge Chair from the Dinesen x Pawson collection—a collaboration between Dinesen and John Pawson. This project is a bit personal for me. Having been part of the development of this piece, I wanted to see if I could translate its subtle connections between Pawson’s minimalist aesthetic and the native properties of dinesen planks into a web-native, interactive model. The workflow was fully synthetic, but with a twist on the textures. I built a custom 18-meter photostudio specifically to capture 15-meter long planks to ensure the wood grain felt authentic. I used these assets i developed for Dinesen to ensure the connection between real and digital. I used PostShot for the training and compressed the final result to a .SOG file for high-fidelity viewing in the browser. This was purely a learning project—pushing the limitations of current 3DGS technology and my workflow to see exactly where the render holds up and where it starts to break. Huge thanks to the teams at Dinesen and John Pawson for creating such an inspiring piece of furniture to work with. I’d love your technical eyes on this. Try the link and let me know where you see the synthetic workflow failing. How would you tune the parameters to get even closer to reality? Pro Tip: Add &aa to the end of the URL to activate anti-aliasing; it’s essential for the fabric fidelity and overall appearance.
