The Celestial Canopy from Wanshan Zhengjue Hall of Longfu Temple is a national treasure-level architectural relic from the Ming Dynasty (c. 15th century), now housed in the Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum. Composed of six layers of interlocking wooden brackets (mortise-and-tenon joints), it features 48 miniature heavenly palaces, sculptures of the Four Heavenly Kings, and a celestial map with over 1,400 stars—copied from a Tang Dynasty astronomical chart and remarkably accurate by modern standards. Blending architecture, astronomy, and religious art, this masterpiece embodies ancient Chinese cosmology of “round sky and square earth.” After being damaged in an earthquake, it was restored over five years, standing as a pinnacle of Ming Dynasty woodworking and cosmic imagination.
