Seven-Spotted Ladybug

The typical red, colorful outer shell is actually a pair of hardened wings that protect the ladybug’s real wings and body. Their round shape makes them difficult for predators to grab. The flying wings are quite a bit larger and are neatly folded inside like a backpack. The number of spots or the color of the back actually indicates different species, not age. Almost like a tiny turtle, when threatened it pulls in its legs and plays dead. Shot from 126 perspectives, 16 focus stacked images each. Nikon D810, cropped sensor, f/16, ISO 128, Tamron 90mm macro lens and 10mm extension, with Speedlights. The wings were digitally (re-)rendered with motion blur. www.patreon.com/DanyBittel
