Created from 742 images. Great Chishill windmill is one of the very few surviving open trestle Mills. It was built in 1819 on the site of an earlier mill that provided several timbers for the rebuild. It is the only such mill with a fantail for automatic winding. It was in use, grinding grist for animal feed, until 1951 and was fitted with a new trestle and weatherboarding in 1967. The machinery is virtually complete but currently inoperable.
